Basic Principles of Audio/Video Waves on Television

 Images and sounds captured on television  are the catches of a camera, which is then processed and broadcast by a television transmitter (transmitter) in the form of waves / frequencies , namely:
  • FM Waves (Frequency Modulation) - Emit Image Objects consisting of 3 separate Primary colors , namely: Red (Red), Green (Green), Blue (Blue) or often referred to as RGB. The Image object is in the form of a Signal -> " Chromynance , Luminance , Synchronization " and broadcast using Waves -> FM Frequency
  • AM Wave (Ampitudo Modulation) - Emits "Audio" that is caught with Camera or Audio that has been through the editing process (for indirect broadcasts).
 Both of the above Video and Audio Waves are broadcast through Electromagnetic waves to be caught on a Television Device. The television then converts the Electromagnetic Signal , back to the Image Object that can be seen.

Standard Television Waves/Frequency

Television waves/frequencies are divided based on certain frequency fields or called bands, namely:

  • VHF-L (Very High Frequency-Low) - Works in Low Frequency fields , Ch 2 - Ch 6 with a frequency range ( 54 MHz - 88 MHz ).
  • VHF (Very High Frequency) - Works in the High Frequency field , Ch 7 - Ch 13 with a frequency range ( 174 MHz - 216 MHz ).
  • UHF (Ultra High Frequency) - Works in very high frequency fields , Ch 14 - Ch 83 with a frequency range ( 470 MHz - 890 MHz ).
The three bands work on their respective Frequency Fields , Transmitters and Recipients using different Models/Types of Antennas.

  • National Television System Committee (NTSC) - USA
  • Pharase Alternating Line (PAL) - United Kingdom
  • Sequitial Ceuleur a'Memorie (SECAM) - France
The system used in Indonesia is " PAL B/G ". The thing that distinguishes the system is Picture Format, Carrier Frequency distance ( Image wave) and Sound carrier.
